Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Chrome need the Accessibility Service?

Chrome versions before 135 don't support Android's standard autofill framework. The Accessibility Service allows PasswordOwl to detect login forms and offer autofill in these older Chrome versions. Chrome 135+ supports native autofill.

Is the Accessibility Service safe?

Yes. The Accessibility Service only observes login fields to offer autofill. PasswordOwl doesn't collect, store, or transmit any data about your browsing activity. All your vault data remains encrypted and never leaves your device unencrypted.

Can I use PasswordOwl without the Accessibility Service?

Yes! If you don't use Chrome, you only need to enable the Autofill Service (Step 3). Firefox, Samsung Internet, and other browsers work with native Android autofill.

Does autofill work in apps too?

Yes! Once you enable the Autofill Service, PasswordOwl can fill credentials in any Android app that supports autofill, including banking apps, social media, and more.

How do I check my Chrome version?

Open Chrome, tap the three dots menu, then "Settings" → "About Chrome". If your version is 135 or higher, you can use native autofill without the Accessibility Service.

Chrome 135+ Users: Optional Settings

If you have Chrome 135 or newer, you may need to configure Chrome to use PasswordOwl instead of its built-in autofill:

  1. 1. Open Chrome → Settings → Autofill services
  2. 2. Select "Use another service"
  3. 3. Choose PasswordOwl
